The Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the first Incorporation of Armagh as a City was held in St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral on 24 April 2013. The Lord Mayor, Councillors and invited guests, representing many aspects of life in the City of Armagh, were present.

The silver maces which were created when the City was incorporated in the 17th century are part of the Library’s collection. They were put on display in the Library’s Long Room to reinforce the significance of the 400th anniversary. Stephen Day, the Registry Officer, is shown holding one of the two maces before they were returned to their usual display area in No 5 Vicars’ Hill.
