A Spanish Ulster Scot in the early United States. The visit of Admiral Henry Randal MacDonnell
Lecture on Admiral Enrique MacDonnell, descendant of the Earls of Antrim, who was stationed in Havana in the late 18th century when European powers were watching with interest the emergence of the newly independent United States.
To gain a better understanding of this post-colonial society, MacDonnell spent upwards of a year there recording his thoughts on the military, political, economic and internal affairs of this new player on the trans-Atlantic stage.
Speaker | Roddy Hegarty
Roddy Hegarty has previously been Development Officer and later, Chair of the Federation for Ulster Local Studies and was a ministerial appointee to the Northern Ireland Museums Council for several years.
Currently a trustee of the Ulster Local History Trust, and regular speaker on topics of local history, he is the Director of the Cardinal Tomás Ó Fiaich Memorial Library & Archive.
