The City of Armagh will host a series of six lectures, ‘Armagh and USA 250‘, to highlight the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence. Three venues – Armagh County Museum, Armagh Robinson Library and the Cardinal Ó Fiaich Library and Archive – will work together to promote the historic links between the island of Ireland and the United States of America.
Roddy Hegarty, Director of the Cardinal Ó Fiaich Library said,
The Cardinal Ó Fiaich Library and Archive is delighted to work with Armagh Robinson Library and Armagh County Museum to host this important series of lectures. Although two and a half centuries have passed and both this country and the United States have been transformed beyond recognition in that time, by politics, migration, industrialisation and democracy, much of what occurred in those years still resonates today. The ideals and ambitions that gave rise to the American Revolution still hold important messages for the modern world and we are delighted to begin our own local journey exploring those trans-Atlantic links of philosophy, history and kinship.
The three venues will share in hosting the lectures throughout April, May and June. For information on all lectures, please go to our events listing.
This project has been made possible through funding from the Department for Communities under their USA – NI250 Fund. All six lectures will have free admission, with advance booking required. To book for any one of the lectures, please e-mail admin@armaghrobinsonlibrary.co.uk
