Lonely Planet Travel Guide UK Top 500

The Lonely Planet Travel Guide has released the top five hundred destinations to visit in the UK and twenty of them are in Northern Ireland. Armagh Robinson Library is the one destination highlighted in County Armagh!

The Library’s entry in the Lonely Planet’s guide book begins as follows: ‘A first edition of Gulliver’s Travels, published in 1726 and annotated by Swift himself, is the most prized possession of the wonderful Armagh Robinson Library, founded in 1771 by Archbishop Robinson.’

The Library’s Assistant Keeper, Carol Conlin, said, “I was contacted by the Ulster Gazette’s Editor about this news. The Library’s team in both the Library and No 5 Vicars’ Hill is delighted with the listing. Although small in number, we endeavour to give all our visitors a warm welcome and to help people with their research queries. We appreciate the Lonely Planet’s recognition which is a great morale boost for us.”
