rmagh Public Library and No 5 Vicars’ Hill will be open from 6.00pm to 9.30pm to participate in Armagh’s Culture Night on 16 September 2016. Visitors will see inside these two eighteenth century buildings in the evening light, and view items on display, including a new exhibition in the Library on Shakespeare and his work. At the same time visitors will be able to enjoy performances of music and the spoken word.
A spokesperson for the Library and No 5 said, “This will be a lovely opportunity to hear music in both buildings by members of the Arts Care Choir, Armagh Pipers’ Club and Armagh Old Boys’ Band, who will perform at different times throughout the evening. In association with the John Hewitt Society, we will also host a reading in the Library’s Long Room by the author, Michael Hughes.”
Having opened both buildings for the European Heritage Open Days last weekend, Culture Night provides a further reason to reveal the Library as ‘the healing place of the soul’, No 5 as a ‘hidden gem of collections and curiosities’, and to do so with the addition of music and reading.
- Members of Armagh Old Boys’ Band will perform in No 5 at 6.00pm and then in the Library at 6.30pm
- Members of the Arts Care Choir will perform in No 5 at 7.00pm and then in the Library at 7.30pm.
- Members of Armagh Pipers’ Club will perform in No 5 at 8.00pm
- Reading by Michael Hughes, in association with the John Hewitt Society, will be held in the Library at 8.15pm. Copies of Michael’s latest book, The Countenance Divine, will be on sale.
