The Governors and Guardians, staff members and volunteers are deeply saddened to learn of the death of a greatly respected former Governor and Guardian and a long time volunteer of this Library, Harry Carson.
Harry worked tirelessly for the Library from 1990, firstly in the position of Deputy Keeper, as a Governor and Guardian and finally as a volunteer. He raised awareness of the Library and its collections within library and museum circles. He helped to develop the Library as a welcoming place for groups, individual visitors and researchers. He created the first treasure hunts for children, helping us to become a ‘playful museum’ for families.
As a mark of respect, we will close the Library on Friday 4 September for the morning, to allow staff and volunteers to attend Harry’s funeral.
